| The Emergency Shelter (ES) Program, mobilizing community resources, uses religious facilities for overnight lodging. Congregation volunteers staff the shelter sites nights and weekends, and provide dinner and breakfast for families (maximum of 14 people each night).
Our Day Center, in Parsippany, is open Monday thru Friday from 7am – 5pm and family members use this space to search for employment, do homework, and meet with community workers.
In 2011, we provided 4,195 nights of shelter for 14 families and 4 single women, totaling 49 individuals, 27 of whom were children.
The main goal of the ES Program is to transition families from homelessness to permanent housing. In 2011, this program had a 89% success rate. This is the key program that prepares families to live on their own and be successful in their own homes.
Families entering our ES Program are also provided with the following services: * Counseling * Financial literacy * Child care * Parenting classes * Transportation to and from the Shelter site each day * Direct financial support, when appropriate * Referrals to low cost health care and legal services providers * Holiday food and gift assistance * Access to “family” only phone line and computers
