Interfaith Council was incorporated as a not-for-profit in 1988 and our methodology is modeled after and we are an affiliate of Family Promise (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network) which was started in 1986. Across the U.S., more than 143 network affiliates involving 4,000 congregations of all faiths and more than 150,000 volunteers work as we do providing a community response to a community need.
We began by providing emergency shelter and part-time case management support only, but have expanded our programs and staff over the last 20 years. We now have 3 full time staff and provide full time case management to our families in emergency shelter. We also find that the success of our families who transition into stable housing is enhanced with on-going case management services. As a result, we created our Permanent Supportive Housing Program. This is a voluntary transitional resource for families who continue to benefit from the services of Interfaith Council once they are in independent housing.
