Our Mission Family Promise of Morris County is a non-sectarian, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ending the crisis of homelessness faced by Morris County families by partnering with other public and private agencies, religious congregations and community volunteers to provide shelter, case management and mentoring services leading to self-sufficiency.
We accomplish this through:
Direct service in partnership with our congregations and volunteers where we provide meals, comprehensive case management, transportation, direct financial support, holiday assistance, and professional services for families in both our Emergency Shelter Program (up to 14 people) and our Permanent Supportive Housing Program (35 people and growing!).
Community awareness and participation through efforts such as a series of presentations on families and homelessness made to the Morris County School District in May 2009 that resulted in Family Promise of Morris County being chosen among 3 local charities to receive a donation of more than $9,000. It also includes spearheading Project Homeless Connect in Morris County for 3 years in a row (from inception – 2008). Family Promise of Morris County believes in community activities that affect change. Project Homeless Connect is a 1-day initiative to address the needs of the various homeless populations in Morris County. The Morris County Freeholders gave us a proclamation for our efforts in organizing this event and we were featured prominently in the local media including print, TV and radio.
Advocacy of responsible solutions both with our families and in the community through family planning, financial literacy, consequences of decision making and advocating for affordable housing.
Facilitation to permanent housing for our families through efforts such as the newly developed Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA). Family Promise of Morris County staff played a large role in working with other community agencies to get funding for additional rental assistance. In 2008, two (2) Family Promise of Morris County families received a housing voucher or subsidy under this program as well as ongoing case management of at least 3 hours a week to keep them in their stable housing arrangement.
